Paris by bike

Paris in summer has a distinct holiday feel. There is lightness and relaxation in the air. The streets are empty, and the café terraces fill up. It’s the perfect time to enjoy all the charms of the city’s parks, gardens, beautiful avenues and intriguing alleyways. And the best way to do so is by bicycle! Read on as the Hotel Les Tournelles team shares with you their ideas on the subject!

Cycling around Paris

Cycling is increasingly popular in Paris and the capital is becoming more bicycle-friendly all the time. Protected cycling routes and paths are being systematically developed, making it ever easier to get around the city in a safe, pleasant, healthy and environmentally friendly way. What’s more, hiring a bike is quick and convenient thanks to the Vélib' self-service bike rental system the city has established. Dozens of terminals can be found throughout the capital, allowing you to take and return a bike whenever you want. All you need is a credit card. If you get tired of pedalling, simply leave your Vélib' at the nearest terminal and continue on your way by taxi or Metro. If you find you need to keep your bike longer than expected, no worries; there are no return constraints. For the less fit, or if the day is too hot for excessive exertion, electric bicycles are also available at some Vélib' stations. We’ll tell you the closest to our Hotel Les Tournelles Paris. On a whim or for a scheduled excursion, enjoy the freedom offered by this service!

Routes for all tastes

Cycling gives you the opportunity to explore Paris at your own pace, unrestricted by the limitations of public transport. You can explore the charming streets of the Ile de la Cité, soak up the lively atmosphere of the Grand Boulevards, take on the challenge of the - very steep! - Montagne Sainte-Geneviève or enjoy the beauty of the banks of the Seine. Or you might prefer to discover the two green lungs of Paris, the Bois de Boulogne in the west and the Bois de Vincennes in the east. Their wide, shaded paths are a real treat to roam via pedal-power. Take the opportunity also to discover the parts of Paris less frequented by tourists, such as the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont or the Butte aux Cailles hilltop neighbourhood with its picturesquely colourful houses and Art Deco architectural heritage. Finally, if you’d rather enjoy a guided tour of Paris by bike, we’re happy to give you all the info about the agencies that offer this service.

With its freedom and fitness benefits, cycling is one of the most pleasant ways to discover Paris, especially in the summer. Whether it’s just a means of transport or an essential ingredient in a great day trip, it's up to you. And upon returning to your Hotel Les Tournelles, you can quench your thirst at our Honesty Bar, open 24/7!
