A heaped helping of humour at the Théâtre du Marais

The Marais district is one of the oldest in Paris and yet it’s also the one that sets the trends. Between its one-of-a-kind concept stores, its magnificent mansions dating back to the Renaissance, its cafes and bistros, the Marais is a great place to live and a fascinating quarter in which to stroll from discovery to discovery. In the heart of these exciting streets, the Hotel Les Tournelles invites you to enjoy a unique stay. And our team knows some great places of entertainment, such as the Théâtre du Marais.

The Marais tradition

During the Grand Siècle, the period of French history during the 17th century, the Marais was renowned for hosting the most fashionable Parisian salons. The brilliant and the beautiful shone there as much due to their costumes as by their spirit. Combining satire, love and analysis, they left their mark on this district. It was therefore quite natural that the first theatre in the Marais should open its doors there during the 17th century. Although the places change, the name remains and has become synonymous with quality entertainment. That’s why it was to the Théâtre du Marais that the renowned Cours Florent drama school moved from May 2000. The current arrangement dates from 2015 and is under the direction of Hervé Compan, who has decided to devote it to humour in its various forms. You will find stand-ups, one woman or one man shows and pieces whose goal is to make you burst out laughing.

On the programme

There’s no doubt that you will find something to satisfy your thirst for humour as there’s no fewer than twenty shows scheduled for February and March at the Théâtre du Marais. Humour with a feminine touch is provided by the hilarious doubts of Victoria Pianoasso, the quirky self-mockery of Ombeline de Tarragon, the fierce verve of Mélodie Fontaine and the energy of Perrine Perez. On the one-man show side of things, you might like to choose between, among other delights, Yohann Lavéant's "The Own Man", "Marc Rougé Left the Group" or Samuel Bambi's "Intimist Show before Bercy". You will also find on the stage of the Théâtre du Marais such delirious plays as "Me, I Play", a dizzying dive into the daily life of four apprentice actors, or "Return to College", an immersive play that leaves a lot of room for improvisation. Finally, children are not forgotten amidst all this fun and can enjoy productions especially for them like “The Socks Fairy”, a show based around the not-so-simple theme of sleep that makes little ones from 2 years old laugh out loud.

Whether you’re looking for a headliner or want to discover new talent, you will find something to fill your evening with laughter at the Théâtre du Marais. Make the most of it, as this wonderful venue is only a ten-minute walk from the Hotel Les Tournelles.
