Many museums cannot yet reopen to the public. But the good news is that you can still enjoy their many treasures at the click of a mouse! The Hôtel Les Tournelles invites you to discover the virtual tours offered by its favourite museums.
The Louvre Museum is a must-see
The Louvre is the largest museum in Paris and one of the largest in the world. It welcomes millions of visitors each year who flock to admire famous works such as the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci, the Winged Victory of Samothrace, and remarkable artifacts such as millennia-old mummies.
Due to the current pandemic situation, the Louvre is launching #LouvreChezVous, allowing you to visit the museum for free from the comfort of your own home or hotel room! The museum stays in touch with its followers on Instagram; a new post every day allows them to discover an item from its vast collections or a part of its history. You can also take advantage of the free virtual reality experience on the mobile app and a series of five podcasts showcasing the most famous works of Leonardo da Vinci, tying in with the current major exhibition on the Italian Renaissance master.
A virtual exploration of the Orsay Museum
Located in the heart of the capital, by the Seine, the Musée d'Orsay is situated in a former railway station built for the Universal Exhibition of 1900. This Beaux-Arts building makes a superb, light and airy display space. The museum’s holdings are chiefly comprised of French art from 1848 to 1914, including the world’s largest collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masterpieces.
Faced with the current quarantine situation, the museum is offering virtual tours with an emphasis on child-friendly content. Discover Les Petits M'O, a website dedicated to children that presents a virtual tour of the museum’s various spaces as well as numerous activities. Children and their parents can have fun discovering the Work of the Month selected from the museum's extensive collections. You can also enjoy podcasts related to the works and exhibitions highlighted.
The Pompidou Centre is virtually open to you
The Pompidou Centre, designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, is an architectural curiosity of the 20th century, instantly recognisable by its transparent escalators and exposed external multihued pipework worthy of a futuristic factory. The building houses the National Museum of Modern Art, world-famous for its collection of works from the 20th and 21st centuries. Here you can discover the creativity of artists such as Picasso, Dubuffet, Andy Warhol and Anish Kapoor.
During this lockdown period, you can still visit the museum thanks to numerous virtual tours and podcasts on its website! On Wednesdays you can enjoy online screenings of films drawn from the Pompidou Centre’s collections. It’s a modern and fun way to discover films at the crossroads of avant-garde, experimental, documentary and arthouse cinema. What’s more, the Centre provides several international artists masterclasses, available for free on YouTube!
